About

The idea for this site sprung about as I looked around and saw an America more divided than ever. Tribalism and partisanship seem to reach new heights every day, and violence, as a result, has increased. All the critical issues today are viewed through a partisan lens, and bipartisanship between the two ideologies is an increasingly rare breed. With people moving further and further towards the extremes on both sides and the fabric of our nation being pulled apart, this is not a sustainable course to lead the country into the future.

America has always prided itself in moving united into the future and charting new courses that have led the nation forward. History has backed this up; after Pearl Harbor, the country rallied behind the President to create the last defensive line the West had to combat the forces of Fascism washing across the European continent. After 911, President Bush’s approval rating skyrocketed to 93% as we rallied behind our government, although shaken to send a message to the terrorists that the American experiment would not die on September 11th, 2001. During the Watergate scandal, both parties demanded answers to President Nixon’s blatant corruption, with members of his party, such as Senator Howard Baker, pressing the vital question about what President Nixon knew and when he knew it. Many such examples are present in our history and together is the only way we move forward.

Although the ideologies may seem complete opposites, and common ground on any issue feels hopeless, there is common ground to be found. We seek to advocate for not abandoning principle but to have common sense and honest discussions with the opposition and pave the way to the future. We must create a bridge of wills that will unite us and move us into the future. What President Lincoln said so long ago still rings true, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” We seek to examine all sides of the issues and their merits and the solutions that will serve as bridges to our future.

  • Hey! I’m Daniel Nuñez, the creator of Bridge of Wills and a current freshman at Duke University, intending to major in Political Science! I created Bridge of Wills in 2022 because I believed I could harness my passion for writing and politics to create a platform that would help reduce partisan tensions in America—I still believe we can. In a political environment that no longer just encompasses fierce disagreements but that is beginning to include violence, Bridge of Wills and its mission are needed more than ever. I hope you can give both Bridge of Wills and give civil disagreement and debate a chance when learning about the issues that affect our country. You can reach me at den17@duke.edu if you have any suggestions or comments!
